^^^^If they had another World Cup in the US the whole country would go bonkers. We love big sporting events and given all the Central and South American immigrants plus everyone now understanding the sport so much better and all the rivalries and teams around the world there is a huge fan base. You can't go to a sports bar on the weekend that isn't showing Premier League or Brazil or Mexican League games. The MLS is also on all summer too and only really competes with baseball (and the WNBA! ).
Hell they had a Man U - Real Madrid exhibition game last year at Michigan Stadium and they sold 100,000+ tickets in just a few days (!). Some of the Man U players said it was one of the most incredible stadium experiences they'd had:
