TDK you hit the nail on the head. It's a combination of that plus more cultures being surrounded by each other & going to school with each other than in the past.
But usually for the situations in which it works out (especially for older serious relationships), the two parties are likely of a similar socioeconomic & educational background. Might have overlap with social circles & certainly with interests and hobbies too.
