Cameron looked great in 'There's something about Mary'. I still have the DVD. She had an authentically fresh look often missing in Hollywood. Although she is / was on the A list, she's not a gifted theatrical performer and its her looks and marketability that propelled her career.
Of course those of us on this side of the ideological divide have seen this before - a woman past her prime (often childless) who has been around the block (banged by numerous men) and decides to 'settle down'. Cameron must have had marriage proposals from high-status men in the past. It just seems as though she specifically wanted to avoid having a child.
