I don't know if this will factor into the decision-making process for the OP, but La Candelaria is known as the place where the backpackers go. It could potentially limit one's ability to meet and develop social-circles with middle/upper class girls as they will quickly assume you are a backpacker/poor traveler and lose interest. Good looks could make anything possible though.
That being said, it would be the place to go to meet other travelers, and is certainly less boring than the Norte.
