First off, the 4x4 is clearly taking the force of the beating. If you are gonna suffer for your art, suffer. Don't put a piece of No. 2 pine between you and greatness.
I really think its funny though that they asked if anyone in the audience wanted to beat her and some guy raises his hand and slaps her right in the face.
She's supposed to be resembling a figurehead on a ship. A ship would not be pine, it would be teak or similar. Which made me think of this:
"Balsa wood's stupid"
