I am in complete agreement. You should not at all feel guilty about not liking music, because most music today is complete and utter crap.
Personally, I listen to either really old stuff like old bluegrass and classical, or in tongues I do not know, like salsa and metal. Instrumentals without words are nice as well.
But you are right, obsessing about books is far more instructive than obsession about pop culture, which is what obsession about music translates to.
