A 24-year-old man dressed like Rambo went on a rampage through a Canadian city on Wednesday night and is still on the loose almost a full day after shooting five police officers and killing three of them, police said.

Police identified the suspect as Justin Bourque, whose Facebook page is littered with posts about guns, violence and his disdain for authority figures.

The rampage began at about 7:20 p.m. local time Wednesday night in the city of Moncton, New Brunswick and cops are still looking for Bourque more than 21 hours later.

Just after 2 p.m. local time officers had a building surrounded in hopes of capturing Bourque, but after more than an hour, cops left the building without apprehending Bourque. CBC has a live stream of continuous coverage as the search unfolds.

One terrified family watched one of the shootings unfold from inside their home and posted the video to Facebook.

The attack came on what would have been the 35th birthday of Christopher Dorner, a former Los Angeles police officer accused of killing three police officers last year and leading cops on one of the largest manhunts in history before killing himself in a standoff with police.

Police said at a mid-afternoon news conference that they still weren’t ready to release the names of the officers who were killed because their families hadn’t all been notified.

Both of the officers who survived the shootings and underwent surgery Thursday morning, police said. One of the officers was released from the hospital. Both are expected to survive.

That's a picture taken of him during the attack. Currently, there's an ongoing manhunt for Bourque. It looks like Bourque is using an M14 and some kind of 12 Gauge Shotgun with a collapsible stock and pistol grip, and from pictures of bullet holes in the slain RCMP officer's cruisers, the guy is a good shot. Scary stuff. So far there's been no official motive discovered, but it seems like Bourque isn't going on a rampage so much as he's targeting police (like Chris Dorner did). His best friend had this to say about their last encounter:

Mike Campbell was drinking whiskey in his garage after his father died, when Justin Bourque showed up.

The two friends had drifted apart since Bourque’s parents decided Campbell was “too competitive” at street hockey, he said, adding that Bourque was homeschooled throughout his childhood.

He got up. ‘I should get home before I pass out,’ is what he said. ‘I’m going to go,’” Campbell recalled of their last meeting in the garage, just down the street from Bourque’s family home. “

“I told him, ‘Get hold of me later.’ And he was like, ‘I don’t know. You take care, Mike. You have a good life.’

According to Campbell, Bourque had recently quit his job at a grocery store and was living in a trailer park.

“I believe he just didn’t know what to do. He was my best friend my whole life. He would be the last person I would think would do this.”

A former co-worker at Walmart told Business Insider that the 24-year-old has long been resentful of authority and fascinated with guns, prone to making unsettling statements.

“I never took him seriously, but he always said he wanted to go out with a bang and bring people with him,” said Caitlin Isaac, who worked with Bourque several years ago, until he was fired for “attitude issues.” He wanted to “give people something to remember him for.”
