I've been saying this about L.A. for years. Nice observation.
It has this SoCal stereotype of "Yeah man, super mellow, everything's chill, relaxed...blah blah blah." It's anything but. It's one of the most self-conscious and insecure places I've ever seen.
There ARE paces like that in SoCal, places like Carpinteria, parts of Ventura, parts of San Diego (Ocean Beach) But once you get in the Westside of L.A. all that goes right out the window in exchange for this weird superficial zombie culture.
