In my area most barbacks even at the higher end places in River North with all the nice clubs most barbacks are hispanic and speak little to no english, and like someone else mentioned your not really customer facing your job is to bring ice and cases of beer up to the bar. I'm sure while running around you'll get to chat it up a bit and I'm sure there's downtime. YOur ultimate goal should be to learn the industry so you can move up to being a bartender.
