I think it's the mark of a proud country that it graciously offers safe haven to those that desperately need it, due to horrific conditions in their homeland.
And if they literally arrive by boat (sailboats? Rowboats? I'm assuming these aren't luxury cruiseliners), then that's fairly impressive IMO. It speaks to their resilience and resourcefulness.
