The quality of life for your average check to check cubicle rat or skilled laborer is probably better in Europe. But once you get above the one-check-from-disaster income level it's better to be an American.
Although it seems cool to bash America, one thing I will say as a Canadian is that you cannot beat their standard of living. In Canada, we have a similar standard but tend to have to pay more for basic goods.
I have friends who own bikes, cars and some even boats, they aren't even rich just working class. Try living like that in Europe.
