In general, the personal importance of these events depends mostly on age of the viewer, not significance. I recall being absolutely shocked by by scenes from Vukovar, even though I was a child at the time. My aunt tried to prevent me from watching but it was too late. Nowadays I'm looking at the shit going on in Syria and reading about Holocaust and Khmer Rouge, and it disturbs me but doesn't shock me anymore because, as an adult, I'm more used to such things.
