Absolutely do it. Just make sure to bring a laptop with plenty of movies downloaded to keep you occupied. I can't remember if they have electrical plugs now on via like amtrak does, so you might have to bring chargers/batteries with you.
Working on a project on the train, like programming, studying, or blogging, is really nice.
Also, be sure to bring food and water with you. The cost of soda/beer seemed no worse than any other restaurant that I have been to in Canada.
The food options in economy weren't gross, IIRC, but they weren't great either.
There is no point in paying for business class. I did it once and can't even remember if you even got a bigger seat. You do get a very good TV dinner with free booze.
