There's no intrinsic value "having principles". Some of the worst people in history stuck to their principles.

That's fair, but I meant it in terms of a comparison with modern politicians who change their opinions every two weeks to vote-whore. At least with Thatcher you had a consistent ideology. Sure, it benefited some, namely the aspirational working class in the South, and made life horrible for others, namely the men in the north who worked in either mining or in factories. Plus, of course it benefited the already wealthy, as does all right wing conservatism.

There have been some very interesting debates on the radio this afternoon, even from former miners etc who's views on her have mellowed over the years. I'm not supporting her either way particularly as it was way before my time and I don't know the complex issues surrounding the decisions she made. However, as I said, it is PATHETIC and ridiculous that a bunch of 'socialist because it's trendy' kids on my facebook are gloating over her death when they probably have no idea who she is, and if they do, only know she's "bad" because of what someone else said.
