People who work in personnel have always taken a good look at the quality of a job application. They often believe the application itself will be the best work the candidate will ever do, as getting the job depends on it. First impressions count!
In a similar vein, I am often surprised by how bad women over 40 often look in profile photos. It makes you think "Surely she must have done her best for this picture, if she looks so terrible in this in the profile, then she must be really ugly in real life"
Adding to my generally negative impression of online dating is the attitudes of many of the women on there, wrinkly over-40s who think they can still afford to be as haughty and demanding as a 20-year old princess.
