But I agree, hostels do suck. I only stay at them if I'm on a super budget. Otherwise Airbnb or compartoapto is my go to.
Kona's story is probably right on, however backpackers are opportunists as well.
They are broke and hungry.
What do you think they do when someone leaves a camera, sunglasses or wetsuit out in the open?
