Picking up foreign tourists

Props to look for:

Cheap tear off attraction maps from tourist orientated hotels. Tourists often get turned completely around with these. Smile, looking at their map, point at it with a question on your face, and if they open to you, orientating the map to where they are is a real help --many tourists get so turned around they can't tell where they are on the map. Point at a street and where it is on the map. From here will come, "What do you like to see here."

Theater programs. After tourists have done sightseeing and gone to a museum or two, they want to go see live theater on a stage. Around 4:30pm-5pm the 2pm performances on Saturday and Sunday let out. They will be lost and hungry. Position yourself to blend where the show lets out. Point at the theater program and ask what show did they see? (Even if you've seen it, you haven't seen it and are curious if it's worth your dollar seeing it) Was the show good? How was the sound --feedback squeals hurt your ears. Were any of the cast substituted this weekend?

Good pointers, no doubt. But dont you think asking too many questions about the live theatre make you look not local and wussy?

You're placing too much emphasis on the opener. It doesn't really matter.

"How good is your English?"
"You look lost"
"What's a crazy foreigner doing in my town?"
"Are you from x?"
"You don't look like you're from around here"

That won't get them attracted to you, approaching them and displaying your value will. It's not all about lines, it's about you.

MattC, I couldnt have said it better myself.
