The better the bar the more difficult it is to get in later in the evening. Sometimes if you show up at 3AM the doorman will say they are closed even though closing time is at 4AM.
I went to a dive bar a few weeks ago at around 1AM (Welcome to the Johnsons) and the doorman said they were at capacity. It did look completely packed inside though.
