I've never tried to pull without humor, but I think it could be done. I use humor to soften all of the arguing I do with the girl. The arguing is to create chemistry of course.
I can only see this working when the girl is already into you just based on looks alone. In that case it's really just a matter of arranging the logistics for the night.
