The "b" word that comes to mind for me is little more archaic: "battle-axe". Rusty, covered in scratches, and not something you'd want to let anywhere near your children.
Dude seems like a nice guy. He's got a good nature and a good sense of humor; I bet he'd be a ton of fun to hang out with even if he's like 30 years older than I am. It's a shame he got hooked up with a pointy old war relic.
