Lódż, Poland Datasheet

Lódż(pronounced woodze) is the third largest city in Poland, with close to 700k population. Often called the Manchester of Poland, its a very industrial city, but most of the factories have shut down. Although some new industries are moving in (IT, Dell factory), employment and citizen pride is still much less than other cities. They don't have castles, but its got its own special atmosphere with extravagant 19th century buildings and a large artsy student population.

General tips:
Buy a long term tram/bus pass (passes for 24 hourse/1 week/monthly).
The city is spread out and daygame on public transport works well too.

Food wise, try shopping at the Plac targowy open air markets. Good prices and often have quality local foods. Plenty of big shopping markets for food- Real, Biedronka, Tesco.

The zoo is a nice place to visit- almost no fences and little distance between the people and animals.

GAME: Indirect works well. Ask for directions or start an elderly opener with a topic in the environment.
Foreigness is not enough, not even with girls who just arrived from a village to study. I met a girl who lived all her life in a 1,600 person village in the mountains and came there for uni. However, being foreign was not a big deal for her and she still resisted giving me her contact info. Although from a small town, most Polish girls are exposed to foreigners through travel within Poland/EU. It makes for a good 2-3 minute convo topic if you are foreign...but confidence and holding a conversation is 95% of what is needed.

DAYGAME- Shopping malls(galeria lodzka and manufaktura), surprisingly not that great for day game with few targets open to talking. Weekends at manufaktura can be good as the city converges on it. Piotrkowska street is good. Universities are excellent spots and numerous campuses (u of lodz, medical uni, art schools, engineering). Public transport and supermarkets are also excellent.

NIGHTGAME: Orange, Bedroom, Elektrownia
All down Piotrkowska, you have bars and clubs which are worth checking out. For more info on restaurants/clubs check out the inyourpocket guide or ask a local. It seems like there is usually 1 flavor of the month club that everyone wants to be at- Orange was that place at the start of 2012, but others places were still poppin, just not supercrowded.

All in all, an interesting town with a vibrant student population.
