Pretty much have seen the same thing in BA, and agree with your suggestions: yoga or some group activity.
The eye contact habits threw me off for a while, b/c it's just different than in the US (like in NYC where girls will unwaveringly hold EC for example). The long-distance checking you out thing is funny...I've seen that and it takes a while to get used to (noticing some girl watching you from afar and then they avert eye contact up close.)
