Right. I forget who said it, but I always liked the quotation:

"If women really earn only 77 cents on the male dollar, why doesn't some enterprising person start a company, hire only women, and drive the competition out of business?"

It's all in this book, but Farrell's basic conclusion is that the gap comes down to women's choices (preferring cushy/safe/indoor jobs, choosing jobs that offer more flexibility to be with children, preferring arts over sciences, etc.).
