Two thoughts:

1. Living in an area controlled by a gang is dicey, at best. I understand the corruption of many police forces in Latin America, but this sounds like stepping into a higher-risk category altogether.

2. Mama sounds like a deal-breaker. Medellin is a target-rich environment. Lots of opportunities without the red flags.
