Actually at plenty of college campuses, bike theft is rampant, to the point where it happens to every student-cyclist once on average in their college tenure. You don't see 'Biking Back The Night' rallies.

On one hand, I'd agree that violent crimes must be taken seriously every time they happen. But blatant disregard for realistic estimates just erodes their credibility. And when the prevalence of crime is inflated and discussed in feverish tones, the rights of the accused, falsely or not, will vanish.

Honestly, those saggy arms are more evocative of walruses than whales:
