Not just because of the thinning hair, but a good hat will complete a look or outfit.
It's easier to 'get in character' when you have a unique look.
Plus, I overhear girls in the bar all the time saying "the guy in the hat" when referring to me. Definitely makes you stand out.
At some point in the night, I will take off the hat and run my hands through my hair or something to subtly show the girl I'm not bald. That helps.
