Bingo. I'd argue that this just another in a long line consequences of the American culture devolving from self reliance, accountability and responsibility (do it for yourself) to consumerism and external-ism (buy it yourself). In her case she's most likely erroneously looking for the answer to her problems in a pill bottle when the solutions are quite possibly already within her. Her conditioning just makes her incapable of seeing that.
