"Andrew Stern -- the husband of "Deal or No Deal" showcase model Katie Cleary who committed suicide Sunday -- went on a downward spiral after undergoing hormone replacement therapy for his libido ... TMZ has learned.
TMZ broke the story ... Stern shot himself in the head at a San Fernando Valley firing range. Sources say he was deeply depressed, largely over the meltdown of his marriage.
Close friends of Andrew tell us ... 2 years ago he went to a Beverly Hills health and wellness center because he was feeling lethargic and had a waning libido. We're told the center gave him a kit, which included human growth hormones and testosterone. Both were injectables.
The friends say he started experiencing drastic mood swings and became extremely irritable. Andrew kept the regimen up for a year but couldn't take it anymore and stopped cold turkey.
We're told abruptly stopping such therapy is extremely dangerous and in Andrew's case he spiraled into a deep depression, which got much worse because his business failed and everything then took a toll on his marriage.
The friends tells us ... Andrew -- who filed for divorce in April -- went nuclear after seeing pics of his wife in Cannes, nuzzling up to Leo DiCaprio. Katie's rep says the pics didn't have an impact on Andrew, but his friends scoff and say it had a HUGE affect.
One friend tells us he spoke with Andrew the day before he killed himself -- Andrew said he was having "a tough day" but assured him he'd be OK."
Let's play devil's advocate. Two years before this incident in 2012, he started having erectile dysfunction. In 2012, she was age 30, him age 38. His ED treatments made him moody, irritable, and depressive, while his business was declining, eventually leading to failure. From her perspective, this is a pretty crappy position to be in.
Here is a woman who is still extremely beautiful with opportunities from her work to meet other successful men seeing that her husband was in trouble. At age 30, she knew her beauty would not last her much longer than a few years to other successful men. And really, as a model, her beauty is everything she had going for her. Was she to go down with the captain of the ship? Should she stay with a guy with a limp dick and failed business? Unfortunately, "for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health" are merely words repeated out of tradition. In reality, many women will run at the first sign of trouble if she still got the goods.
My guess is this chick bailed as soon as the first signs of trouble started. Her modeling work put her in contact with lots of rich and famous dudes, and so she probably started having affairs on the side and then finally jumped ship when things got really bad. It says that he was the one who initiated the divorce, so my guess is this chick was cheating on him and then left him when he started to hit rock bottom.
Got to say I now feel a little sorry for this dude. He had a limp dick and a failed business. He probably felt like he lost everything when she left. Furthermore, lets be honest: a beta like this dude was probably never going to get a hot piece of ass like her ever again.
Let this be a lesson: Don't put pussy on a pedestal...and a women is only as faithful as her options.
