I'm not overweight (play a lot of sports etc) but I am quite heavy for my height due to my build. I've tried slowing down the pace a bit in SE Asia, quite hard when you're in a city with lots of sights to see but in the more rural areas you can slow things down. Hopefully that'll help and I'll try the baking soda thing when I get home.
