It can be hard to tell because of the language barrier. Although here in the phils it almost seems like poor english is highly correlated with low intelligence.
I've noticed the same thing, I believe the language of instruction in schools in English, so if their english is really bad, it's not a good sign. The bright girls who worked hard in school have been able to have good conversations and discuss cultural differences etc. They still sometimes don't know a pretty common word or two. For instance, I had one interested that didn't know what "affectionate" meant.
if they are just putting together one and two word sentences and claiming they are serious about your, I would not bite for a LTR. I was going back and forth with a really hot girl with terrible Enlgish for a while. Whenever I started talking about sex, she started talking about money, living on dry fish and not even having a mosquito net in the Phils makes for a rather dreary girl.
You can't really "save" someone from a life of deprivation via a LTR, her worldview, focus, and wants are going to be so different if you came from a middle-class background she is never going to be close to being on the same page as you.
If just "sponsoring" her as a concubine, fine but a real LTR, real difficult in my view.
