Speed dating can be a useful tool for getting over approach anxiety and practicing general conversational skills. It sucks for actually meeting women though. The times I've been have been massive dongfest with highly picky, pudgy, superficial women.

Since there are too many guys, they make you sit in a dunce chair at certain intervals to wait that round out... and you're still sitting right next to active "dates," allowing you to sketchily listen in. Running one of those events must be entertaining. I hear they're quite lucrative.
