In the culture, think it might be part of that notion of "empowerment" and girls wanting to show that they can do whatever boys do. "Strong is the new skinny" or something. Meanwhile, a lot guys try to become twigs. Don't get me wrong, looking healthy is attractive but something else may be going on here, too.
