Santa Teresa is the "bohemian" district comparable to Vila Madalena. There is usually always some kind of show or movement going on in the main plaza next to Bolão, which is where people go to get their drunchies on at night.

If you get lucky they will be doing the "Praia da estação" on a Saturday when you're there. Once a month in the summer they turn on all of the fountains in the praça da estação so that people can splash around as if they had a beach. Ask a local friend if its going on. If they don't know what it is they are lame.
