I know in Berlin, there was known to be signs on Art Gallery saying "Sorry, no entry for hipsters from the US".

I have met quite a few self hating hipsters, who dislike the cynical, urbane, self satisfied, petty pretention of it all.
Even though I do not resonate with hipster culture in general, I often find myself associating with people who display the marks of that culture. That being said, it is hard to escape if you are interested in stuff like art and interesting music - as this hipsterism is often just the background culture at hand in day and age. So I do not really take it too seriously.
Sub-cultures are a double edged sword, there are some great people with identify with them, but then again, it is never the masses who just adopt the uniform and conformist "style" I find myself associating with anyway, but individuals who are actually sincere human beings and not nihlistic cardboard cut outs representing the dead of western civilisation.
