If we're going by that; alphas in the animal kingdom maintain a harem of monogamous females and will attack and fight any male that tries to mate with their women, see silverback gorillas. Although human sexual group dynamics/behavior is likely incomparable to most animals.
When it comes to humans, kings, which we can consider "alpha" had big monogamous harems and concubines. I don't think it's unreasonable to care, it's probably an in innate trait.
