When I first started as an undergrad I charged $15 for students at my university and $20 for high schoolers. Then in grad school a friend of my mom contacted me about tutoring her daughter. I wasn't sure how much to charge and was reluctant to take anybody on because I was busy with classes so I just asked her how much she paid her daughters last tutor. She said $80/hr and I said ok. Her daughter did well so all further referrals from her got that rate.
I know that seems like a lot but if you were to do it full time and pay all the proper taxes it'd work out to about $70-80k/year assuming you tutored full time (2000 hrs/year) which is far less than I make now. It's a nice gig for extra cash while you're in school but I wouldn't want to do it full time.
