Growing and Wearing a Patchy Beard

Growing and Wearing a Patchy Beard

Even though I historically haven't been able to grow much of a beard, I stopped shaving a while ago out of laziness and, secondarily, to check in on the status of my follicles.

I've started to grow in a patchy-looking beard that's somewhere along these lines:

At best, it will get this full. I doubt it can go fuller than this:

Currently, there are some areas that are quite full (mustache and chin) and other areas (the cheeks and sideburns) that are really sparse--with many, but not sufficient--long-ish hairs coming in. I'm about four weeks in, and I'm noticing a wave of little hairs coming in between some of the longer ones, which tells me the beard is still coming in. I've been told that you should not judge it (or shape it, for that matter) for at least 6 weeks.

I've been getting mostly positive feedback from chicks for it--and, more importantly, I like it--so I'm going to see it through. I'm sure, like any other style decision, it will alienate some chicks while bringing in other prospects. I still don't know if I will wear it patchy or trim it down to just the parts that are full. The way I see it, it would be premature to decide to shave the spotty areas now.

Do any of you guys wear patchy beards? What are your recommendations for cleaning up/trimming this kind of set-up? What have been your experiences on net gains (or net losses), in terms of reception from girls, when you've worn your patchy beard?

Input appreciated.
