I don't think that for a foreigner spending a medium or long time in Reggio Calabria will be good, for a couple of reasons.
The language barrier will be huge there, not many people will speak english, and I'm quite sure that the hottest girls don't bother to learn it.
Plus in the south many girls have an official boyfriend since they were 16/17, this doesn't mean that they will not cheat but it makes harder to hook up.
Another problem can be that boyfriends and locals might stop you (also threatening you with violence and words) if they see you trying to pick up girls.
Remember that in small cities of the south of Italy we say that "everyone knows everyone" and as well people knows what's happening.
