Ok , some rectification , For Montréal yes it's more cheap for a tourist trip . To live ,well it's not the case at all. Salary are not high and we are the more taxed states in america .Transportation it's way better than Ottawa, Toronto I don't know but, I guess yes .
It's smaller but more dense than Toronto. The subway pass is valid for the bus pass and you have an easy acces to the underground city . For job , if you don't speak french you will never find anything decent . You will have to learn the language . For tough neighborhood they are all located in the north and the east of the island . In general it's a safe city . Half an hour north you have the Laurentides , a touristic area with a lot of place to ski and doing/outdoor activities .
Ottawa , it's a nice quiet city . It's a fonctionnaire place . The by market have some restaurant/bar but it's a more conservative city .
It could be a good place to study and raise a family . The transport is awfull . Ottawa and Montréal by the way have the advantage to be in nature/doing outdoore activities really fast .
