Online Game: Is Instagram worth the pain in the ass?

We have to remember "if you don't move with the times, then get comfortable being irrelevant.

I think the reason why IG doesn't fly well with a lot of guys is because it's one of the least masculine social networks ever invented. You can't help but to feel ridiculous being that guy who takes photos of everything he's doing. The struggle to get more followers, likes, engagement, all so you can appear social and well connected to girls, it's just stupid.

Some guys have compared the rise of IG to the rise of texting and later Facebook. Come on. Texting is just having conversations via text. You don't even need a profile picture unless you're using WhatsApp. Facebook is a lot heavier on the social media aspect, but a lot of people have their friend's list set to private, use privacy settings to restrict access to content, etc. No one's looking for engagement numbers when looking at a FB profile, unless we're talking about real content creators, which most people aren't. Facebook is a mix-and-match of various real life experiences (photo albums, conversations, newsreader) in a highly controlled environment.

The real life equivalent of Instagram is a popularity contest. That's what it boils down to. It's a cliche American high school movie in social media form. And that's why it entices teenagers and women. Vapid popularity and the attention it brings is like crack cocaine for women. Men join the contest because it increases their chances in getting pussy, but the environment is toxic for a guy.
