The implicit pressure on women to succeed at absolutely everything, all at once, is insane. Sheryl Sandberg basically formalized it in "Lean In". Combine with mental health issues and the results are not good.
It's also a convenient mythology for billionaire plutocrats like Sheryl Sandberg, because it masks the reality of declining living standards with an implied failure to "lean in" adequately, and be hyper-productive for 14 hours per day every single day. It seems like this poor girl really took all this to heart, and thought she if she wasn't an internationally successful cyclist while also getting a graduate degree from Stanford, life wasn't worth living. Totally insane.
