My experience matches that of TripleG. Almost all russian girls I've met were university students and only 1 spoke good english.
I spent several months in SPB and could constantly find new nightlife venues, even on my last few weeks there. Depending on the kind of crowd you prefer you can venture out of the central districts and try out clubs where foreigners rarely go to. The city really has more options than it might initially seem.
