Cats are stealthy, merciless, crafty killers if they need to be. Every one of them. A feral kitten I saved last year showed far more ferociousness than a feral pup that came around the property.
With dogs, it kinda depends on the breed. Cats on the other hand are not all that different than their big brothers in Africa. The way they stalk, dash, and attack are very similar including playing with smaller prey until they are dead. And a male lion will kill a cub just to mate with the lioness.
