I know some people in teaching, and they don't want you unless you're normal. Don't be a porn star in a past life, that will get you fired. Don't have unconventional beliefs, and sure as hell don't publicize them if you do. A lot of public schools have moral conduct clauses, or moral turpitude clauses, so they use it as a catch-all to fire you if they need to because they get heat from parents/media. Unless you're somewhere in NYC where you basically get tenure and are impossible to fire, if you're working almost anywhere else in the country at public schools, you don't do anything that would stick out. That's the nature of the game. It is pretty nice to be able to get summers off, but it comes at a price...
