I've been daydreaming about Kyrgyzstan recently and I came across this BBC show which I found very interesting as it touches on economic, social, and (geo)political topics that are discussed frequently on this forum. Also WB Captain Ortiz (~49:00).
In the second video (Uzbekistan and Tajikistan, not linked in this post) we get a brief glimpse into the mail order bride industry and hear a bit more about Islamic militants and repressive governments in the region. The host appears to run some sort of game on the local guide. I enjoy his stereotypically dry/cocky British style, but some may find it annoying.
This seems to be from 2003 so the political situations are different within each country, but the same larger issues seem to be equally relevant.
