Paris has a significantly lower murder rate than Raleigh, North Carolina. Which is obviously a fraction of the murder rate in any major US city - nevermind actually dangerous worldwide cities like Caracas or Johannesburg. Anyone telling you its too dangerous to visit is either a shut-in, a coward, or pushing their own narrative. A tourist with any kind of common sense will be fine.
Paris is however horrible to live in for many of the same reasons London, or many other mega-cities are: overpriced, overcrowded, polluted, unfriendly and not great weather. If anyone is thinking of moving to France it should be way down their list of potential destinations as other posters have mentioned.
It is however still a great old imperial capital, and an absolute must see for anyone interested in European history or culture alongside London, Vienna, Madrid and Rome for similar reasons. Go there once for a week, see the architecture, history, and culture that resulted from hundreds of years of money and power flowing to the city, and then get out of there and go spend time in the real France in a medium sized city like Strasbourg or Toulouse.
