Who knows - he is extremely high IQ with a very active mind - coupled with high industriousness. We should not forget that many musical creators in the not so distant past of the 1930s-80s were still many heterosexual men.
He appears to be a former humorous Gamma nerd who delved into the sea of pussy as soon as he became famous.
In our times and in his mostly background position there would be zero reason to fake being straight.
Regardless of his politics and background, McFarlane's got a really versatile voice. I'm surprised how many character voices he can do, and he's got a great voice for classical/smooth jazz music.
