Soon Tinder will be obsolete also. They'll create some sort of app that uses an intranet inside a restaurant/cafe/bar where you can immediately text whoever you want within that cafe. Trust me, this will happen.
Interesting. There was the concept of having an intranet of land phones in a pub/cafe - a phone at every table, and you can just dial a table of your choice and talk to the girls there (tables were visibly numbered and you just dialed the number).
This never really caught on, the idea was well known and easy to implement technically (a standard pbx), but venues rarely actually did it.
Considering that big-box retail is dying in favor of eCommerce, is it any wonder that people increasingly shop for the opposite sex from the comfort of home? It's a convenience thing. What could possibly make it more convenient? Teleporters? (Sorry for dating myself here)
The only thing unrealistic about Logan's Run is they had more of a 50/50 rule rather than the 80/20 rule, or more like the 95/5 rule which seems to be what's currently dominating with Tinder, (which is why it's not so realistic to show a guy doing the shopping, although Michael York at the time was probably sufficiently alpha.)
