I know some people will want to get pretty deep with the strange forces that are at play here, but it is pretty simple: ugly or strange people turn to the counter-culture when they don't feel like they are getting the attention they deserve.

The current counter-cultural force is basically Fundamentalist Homosexuality. (And why doesn't anybody bring this up?)



When you go to clubs in big cities that attract the fringe attention whores, they are all trying to outdo their homosexual club predecessors.
