I recommend you avoid D.F. It reminded me of San Francisco when there. Tons of hipsters, emos, gays, its dirty, expensive, etc.
If you've got balls go to León, Guanajuato. Big city in a great state in the Bajío. If you want a cosmopolitan experience, go Guadalajara.
